Jeff Hofmann studied bass at Roanoke College, under Alan Weinstein (Kandinsky Trio, and Assistant Professor of cello and bass at Virginia Tech). Jeff also studied under Ed Mikenas (Roanoke and Lynchburg Symphonies), and Bleda Elibal (Principal Bassist-Roanoke Symphony, Dayton Philharmonic Orchestra, West Virginia Symphony).

Jeff currently performs with groups of varying styles including jazz, Celtic, Latin, bluegrass, R&B, and classical. Some of these groups are comprised of members of the Virginia Commission for the Arts, teachers, and studio session musicians.

Recently, Jeff had the privilege to play on the soundtrack for a film entitled, Down in the Old Belt: Voices from the Tobacco South

From Jamestown to the Buyout, Down in the Old Belt: Voices from the Tobacco South traces the history and culture of tobacco in the Old Belt of Virginia. Based on interviews and oral histories of 26 Old Belt tobacco farming families, Down in the Old Belt reveals tobacco s historic decline in context to the land and its farming people.

In June of 2003, Jeff was invited to participate in the 37th annual Smithsonian Folklife Festival, with the Celtibillies. That same year, the Celtibillies were named into the Virginia Commission for the Arts for 2004-2005, and then again for 2005-2006.

Jeff has gone on to do studio recording session work for many area groups of varying styles, and appears on approximately 20 CDs. In 2003, Jeff performed with two area musicians on the soundtrack for a commissioned work. This was an animated trailer that is shown at the beginning of films showing at the historic Grandin Theater, in Roanoke, VA. This work won several ADDY awards in advertising for 2003-2004 in several categories including Best in Show.

Jeff has done other music education programs with The Marcato Trio/ Roanoke Chamber Players. This was a classical trio sponsored by the Roanoke Symphony Orchestra, which performed concerts and artist-in-residence programs at schools in Roanoke City and County, and Montgomery County.
