Tom Ohmsen- Mandolin / songwriter
Tom Ohmsen describes his new CD “Acoustinova” as his version of a new kind of “jazz-swing-latin-bluegrass-blues music. It’s based on the concept of a what if -- as in what if bluegrass pioneer Bill Monroe had collaborated with jazz (and gypsy) guitar innovator Django Reinhardt? There’s no telling what really would have happened had such a meeting taken place, but this album is my interpretation of that musical fantasy,” says Ohmsen. “And it’s 100% acoustic-- no pickups, no amps, just wood, wires, and some good microphones!” Ohmsen is known to the acoustic music community as the author of such critically-acclaimed textbooks as “Music Theory For Modern Mandolin” and “Music Theory For Modern Guitar”, among others. As a recording engineer/producer he has worked on over 200 CD projects by artists such as The Dave Matthews Band, Bill Monroe, Ralph Stanley, Lenny Marcus and Charlie Byrd, Buster B. Jones, and Zakiyah. His work with the DMB culminated in their Gold and Platinum-certified album “Remember Two Things” in 1993. He just recently finished mixing and editing a Bill Monroe 4-CD boxed set to be released on Copper Creek Records later this year.

Anthony Carter - Guitar / songwriter
Guitarist/songwriter recognized for his “clean, articulate...vituosity”(Dr Nancy Klein, ODU;Lane Rodgers, Evince Magazine), Carter plays music reminiscent of DiMeola, Klugh, Kottke, Keaggy, Django Reinhardt and Steve Howe. Anthony is an accomplished acoustic guitarist who has spent over 30 years mastering jazz, blues, classical and fingerstyle guitar. Carter’s initial studio experience came in 1980 when he recorded a contemporary Christian album with the group Sonshine at RCA studios in New York. Also in the 80’s, Carter did demo work while earning a Master’s degree uin Education and teaching high school English. Joining Carter on his last album, “Song Into the Night” are some of the finest musicians and engineers in the Southeast.

Jeff Hofman - upright bass
Jeff has been performing live and recording with Acoustinova for three years. Keeping the time and laying down the harmony in this group is essential. No drums can be a good thing if you have that. Jeff studied at Roanoke College learning music theory and jazz improvisation which add a complexity to the music.
